"Make me a servant"

This past weekend was just busy and crazy. A lady friend from our church was putting together a wedding for her daughter, who ironically is also named Janelle! Anyway, I told her a long time ago that I would help in any way that she needed. She decided that I was the perfect candidate for being in charge of the food and kitchen duties. We weren't able to communicate as well as I had wanted to the week prior to the wedding so I show up on Friday night not too sure of what I was to be doing. She told me on the phone when I called to get directions that she was going to have to make some potato salad. I get to the church and the kitchen at 6:00 PM and there was only one other person there, and they were there to decorate. So, I found the bad of potatoes and start washing them and getting them into pots to boil. Long story shortened, I didn't leave the church that night until 10:30 PM, but the potato salad was made! On Saturday I knew there was a lot that needed to be done and I wasn't really sure how many people were going to show up to help. I got to the church at 10:30 AM with Aaron because Ron wasn't able to watch him that day. I figured that surely there would be SOMEBODY there that could keep an eye on him while I worked. When I got to the church, again there were only a handful of people there and they were able to help for just a short time because they had to get their hair done and get dressed for the wedding, which by the way was at 2:00 PM. Again, long story shortened, there were two people who were an incredible help to me and were able to stay the whole time. I won't drag the story out any longer, but there was about an hour in that whole time frame where I was REALLY stressing out over everything and frustrated that I even had to deal with all of this on a Saturday that I usually spend together with my family. I was rebuked by the Lord when the song, "Make Me A Servant" came to my mind during the turmoil. The Lord allowed us to get through the wedding and reception with no set-backs whatsoever and it ended up being a beautiful, tastefully done wedding. My lady friend and her daughter were so very grateful for all the hard work and time I put in and the Lord taught me an important lesson through all of this! That should be my daily prayer, Lord, make me a servant!

I completely understand the feeling of stress when you are asked to help with something and not given enough details to make it all come together smoothly, but it sounds like you handled it all very well and got the job done.

Cheyenne has been listening to a Patch The Pirate tape when she's supposed to be napping and she gets up and says, "Mommy, I want to be a Servant when I grow up!" She is such a sweet reminder to me that I need to put myself aside and see what else needs to be done!

Wow, I can understand your feelings of frustration! God is so patient and good to us to teach us lessons of servanthood in the midst of such chaos and stress! Though it was an ordeal, I'm sure this is a lesson you won't forget for a long long time! Thanks for sharing.
